Philosophy:
To offer greater patient care and quality by coupling Manual Physical Therapy techniques with one on one care that treats the whole body. Kate is not constrained by inadequate time slots or multiple providers. Exclusively treating her patients empowers her to attain better results in less visits and allows for her to practice using evidence based medicine. Patients are able to get back to an active, pain free lifestyle sooner and often at a lower out of pocket cost. Removing insurance obstacles allows Kate to focus on the whole patient's overall health.

Kate Hoppensteadt, MSPT, MMPT, COMT, FAAOMPT
Kate has her roots in WNC, graduating with a Master's in PT from Western Carolina in 1999 (MSPT). Kate strives to provide the best care to her patients, and because of this she received a second Masters in Advanced Masters of Science in Manipulative Physiotherapy from the University of Sydney Australia in 2002 (MMPT or MPhysio). This is the training that candidly sets her apart, as only a handful of Physical Therapists in the US have this advanced knowledge. This training includes specialization in all complicated orthopedic/musculoskeletal injuries such as dizziness, TMD, headaches, chronic LBP and neck pain, knee and shoulder pain, MVA's, and chronic injuries. Maitland, McKenzie, Mulligan, Jull, and Hodges were the primary philosophies taught while applying evidence based practice. She also has her certified orthopedic Manual Therapy credentials (COMT). She is a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy. Please see our Services page for more information.
In addition to her physical therapy practice in Asheville, Kate is a retired senior faculty member of Maitland Seminars, one of the leading continuing education companies in the USA. She instructed for 20 years, nationally 6 courses, that are required for a certification in orthopedic manual therapy and is a COMT examiner. Kate enjoys instructing other therapists striving to improve quality care. She also is currently adjunct orthopedic faculty at Western Carolina University DPT program. Kate has spoken at the last 3 National Maitland symposiums in 2009, 2011, and 2016 on spine stabilization and cervicogenic dizziness. She contributed to designing a new course on upper cervical pathologies and assisted with the stabilization course material. Kate has spoken at 2 NCPT association conferences here in Asheville, 2013 and 2015, on lumbar motor control. She instructs a cervical motor control course annually at Western Carolina University Physical Therapy program and taught 3 continuing education courses in 2017 at WCU for area physical therapists. She is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association as well as the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapy and continues to contribute to manual PT research, keeping her in tune with the latest advancements in therapy techniques. This also lets her utilize a network of premiere therapists across the country. Kate completed her gold BikePT fitting certification in November 2018. Kate enjoys spending time with her husband, 2 kids, and her dog. In her free time she enjoys running, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, sailing, and yoga.
